                    UMUC Student Support

                    UMUC provides several supporting services:

                    • Registration and academic services
                    • Academic advising (GSMT): contains everything from academic calendar, international students, and graduation. You will probably find what you need here.

                    • Graduate Student relations - "The role of Graduate Student Relations is to facilitate communication and offer you the support and information you need, guidance about academic policy and appeal issues, as well as problem solving and advice."


                    MDE Blog

                    The MDE blog contains ongoing information about the program and related issues. Sign-up ofr RSS feeds to receive timely updates. Automated updates are sent to the MDE Lounge and MDE Faculty Forum.

                    Beginning in Summer 2011 there are significant changes regarding TMAN-MDE students please read the MDE Blog.

                    MDE Student Support

                    The MDE offers its students program specific support services:

                    • Other MDE information links:Prospective students and Current Students 
                    • You can find a set of suggested degree maps here.
                    • The MDE Network by Allison Kipta - includes some of the links below and a few others.
                    • The MDE Lounge: if you are an MDE student or graduate, become a member of the lounge and participate in this wonderful distance education community.
                    • The MDE Peer-Mentoring Program: created for new students, this program will pair you with graduates or senior students and give you the support you need to succeed. If you have graduated or are ahead in the program, help new students becoming a mentor in the program.
                    • The MDE Internship Program: this program provides several opportunities for students and graduates to collaborate with the MDE program and other UMUC units, while getting DE experience and practical knowledge, which could possibly be coupled with your research interests.
                    • The MDE Orientation: this is a webtycho-based workshop that runs every second week of the each term. It provides students with general orientation and advising, and focus on the continuous development of students' e-portfolios and planning for the research project.
                    • The OMDE 670 Capstone information page & The MDE capstone course wiki: this internal page and this wiki has all the information you will need to understand what is required in MDE capstone course (e-portfolio & research project)
                    • The MDE new technologies wiki: this wiki provides many pointers to information about new technologies (e.g. web 2.0 apps).
                    • Allison's web tools wiki: a wiki with a perfect selection of tools for taming the web.
                    • Bookmark and join the MDEBookmarks social bookmarking site. A great way to explore resources used by others in the MDE community, and to add more to it with your own web resources. The advantage is that you can tag and annotate, which represents a significant value added.

                    • *please be aware students taking the Instructional Design Certificate with UMBC should enroll in both schools concurrently- to complete their classes in the proper manner. Students should take one class from each institution per semester. Taking 2 classes at UMUC first and then hoping to finish at UMBC will not work. Contact UMBC for further clarification.
